Entering seminary life has been a significant journey for me. I often ask myself why I chose this path. Was it for recognition or to be served by others? Before seminary, I had many dreams like becoming a seaman to explore the world or a doctor to help the sick. But ultimately, I chose seminary out of love.
I realized that my purpose isn’t about seeking fame or status. It’s about serving others. In our society today, serving can sometimes feel disregarded, as if it places you at the lower part of the society. But Jesus taught us differently. He showed that true greatness comes from humility and a willingness to help those around us.
In the Gospel, when James and John asked to sit next to Jesus, He didn’t scold them for their ambition. Instead, He used it as a teaching moment. Jesus explained that greatness isn’t about power but about serving others. He set the ultimate example by saying, “For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many” (Mark 10:45).
This message means a lot to me. It reminds me that real leadership is about being humble and willing to help, and Jesus lived this truth. Serving others is a showing love and care. It’s not about being on top; it’s about lifting others up. I have learned that serving, requires being open and ready to listen. It’s about being there for people during tough times and celebrating with them in good times. I have come to understand that even small acts of kindness can make a big difference in someone’s life.
My dear friends, Jesus reminds us that serving people doesn’t required fame or you are on the top. But Jesus wants us to serve one another as a brothers and sisters. That every small act of kindness can create the virtues of love and humility.
