The entire month of November is dedicated to the Departed Faithful, including all our loved ones who have passed away. We remember them in our prayers, and visit their graves with candles and flowers. The reason why we continue to commemorate them is because of our faith in the living Lord.
In today's Gospel the Lord reminds us of the life that never ends. Jesus mentioned a situation where 7 brothers married the same woman in succession after the death of one, but did not have children. So they tested him, In the resurrection, who among the seven will be recognized as the husband of the woman since she married them all? Jesus replied that there is no marriage in the afterlife. A woman and a man are husband and wife only in this world. But in the afterlife, all people will be like angels, and so will be called children of God. However, it is just a reminder for each one of us that there is still hope waiting for us. For those of us who believe in Jesus, death is the way to attain eternal life. We no longer need to think about the burdens of living on earth. We will no longer experience hunger, thirst, pain, suffering, sickness or death. All happiness in heaven is eternal. So may our lives be meaningful here on earth so that we can continue to spread the Kingdom of God.
