In our daily lives, even with how good we are, how we treat the people around us, and how we give them a special place in our lives, they will still have something to say. Some will say good things, but we cannot escape the reality that there are some who always look in our limitations. There are people who seem like they exist in our life to put us down, or what we call “bashers”. Especially those who serve in the church, people will use the famous line “Taga simbahan ka pa naman pero ganyan ka.” (You are a churchgoer/worker, but you act like that.). Although it is hurtful, but just like what the band Eraserheads said in their song entitled “With a smile”
“'Cause in a world where everybody
Hates a happy ending story
It's a wonder love can make the world go round
But don't let it bring you down
And turn your face into a frown
You'll get along with a little prayer and a song"
On the first reading of the 25th Sunday in Ordinary Time, from the book of Wisdom, the wicked test the faith of the just one. They want to condemn him to a shameful death because he said that God would take care of him. It proves that since then, the word jealousy has existed. But why are they like that? Because he stands in the good news that God will take care of him. He remained good amidst the instances that tested his patience.
It is tiring to do good because it seems like the world wants us to do the opposite. But let us take the message of the Gospel that says, “If anyone wishes to be first, he shall be the last of all and the servant of all.” As we face different circumstances, we must not let the wicked take our kindness. Let us continue to be a servant to them. A servant who is thinking for the good of others. A servant who has a humble heart. A servant who has the heart of a child, who continues to do good and is dependent on the parents amidst the temptation to do bad. Don’t be affected by people’s negative comments. Because in the end, it is you and God, not you and them. No matter how they treat us, let us continue to be a humble servant for them. Let us never get tired of doing good.
