During these forty days between Easter and the Ascension of the Lord, He asked us to keep our hearts in His love and promise not to leave us alone. Now the words of the liturgy presented to us are from His last testament. This is the full picture of His relationship with the Father and where He wanted to involve us all. The only thing required for this to happen is Love. The obedience to the commandment of love brings us all inside His relationship with the Father.

In times when the fact of being alone can be scary to many. The words of the Lord to the disciples of any epoch are source of strength. He promised “another Advocate”. Literally, the one called alongside. These words said at the last night together with His own is what keeps them in their mission in the near future. He promised the Spirit from the Father, to be and to remain with the disciples always.

It is the Spirit who strengthens, comforts, guides and inspires us disciples. It is the Spirit who enables us to interpret the signs of the times in ways very different from the ways of the world. Not for another reason it is called the Spirit of truth. It is the Spirit who works through us for the transformation of the world. He is the agent for all of us not only to know and experience the truth about the Father and the Son, but the truth about our oneself.

The mission of every disciple starts with the experience of truth and love. This is what brings each one to conform their lives to the commandments of God, not in a legalistic or constraining way but out of love. The love that comes to us through the Spirit will overflow into the lives of others. In such way we will become agents of God's love in the world.
