In the past years, our community of Theologate always celebrated the Palm Sundays with the Christian communities at the Parish. However, today April 5, 2020, we celebrated it in the community, given the ongoing disruptive situation of the Pandemic.
Aware that our parishioners and millions of Christians in the Philippines and the world over cannot attend physically the Mass in their parishes, we kept in communion with them and shared the same blessing of Christ on this day. Having underlined the image Simon of Cyrene who helped Jesus to carry his cross, in the passion narrative, we prayed for all those people who are helping others to carry their cross during this difficult time. We thought of doctors, nurses and all those who bring their help to those people affected by COVID-19, and those who are assisting the needy families in different ways.
At the end of our mass, we posed exposed some blessed palms before our main gate to remind the passers-by and neighbors that we are in communion with them in all our celebrations.
Today, the crowds have acclaimed Jesus as Triumphant, spreading tree branches on the road, saying “Praise to David’s son! …” (Mt. 21: 9). May we too not lose hope during this time of the pandemic, because Christ is triumphant over all enemies of human life, namely sin, injustice, oppression, suffering, and even death.
