Last Sunday, we heard how people looked for Jesus and his apostles. When the people saw them, they went to him and asked for another miracle so that they would believe in him. Jesus answered them, "I will give you the food that has eternal life," and then he declared that he is the bread of life. They doubted, whispered, and challenged him sincerely because they could not accept that Jesus was the Son of God. So he continued to convince them why he came to earth.
Reflecting on the Gospel, we see that when the Jews murmured about Jesus claiming that he is the bread of life, they said he was only the son of a carpenter. Sometimes people don’t want us to grow and succeed. Instead of helping us, they pull us down for them to remain at the peak. Like what the Jews did to Jesus in the first paragraph. Instead of helping Jesus so that the people could know about him, they pulled Jesus down so that they could remain at the peak.
I like what Jesus did to the Jews: instead of giving up, he searched for another way so that the people would not doubt him, and he claimed that he is the bread of life. This doesn’t mean that we are carnivorous and literally eat the body of Jesus. No, Jesus wants us to fulfill our hunger, not only in our physical bodies but, most importantly, in our spirituality, so that we have life with him forever.
My dear brothers and sisters, this reminds us that we need to feed our spirituality to have a deep relationship with him. We need to open our hearts to Jesus, and allow his presence to nourish us and transform us by eating the bread of life. By this, he invites us to attend mass, to be partakers of the Holy Eucharist, to witness the love of Christ, and to eat the bread of life, which is Jesus Christ.
