God qualifies the called

| Mark Jushua Abarquez

30TH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

Short reflection:

In today’s Gospel, we hear about the pharisee and the tax collector. These two men go to the temple to pray. The pharisee walks to the front and proudly expresses what he thinks is a prayer. But He is not praying to God, he is talking to himself. At the back of the temple, the tax collector hardly raising his eyes, humbly and sincerely prays to God: “ God, have mercy on me because I am a sinner”.

Now reflecting about my life, I see that God calls sinners, not just the holy ones. I can easily see myself as a tax collector. I am also a sinful man who is committing sins every day In my young days, when I was in my hometown, was one of those children who were  hardheaded and stubborn. But despite  that, God stilll called and chose me to be one of his disciples. I believe that God doesn’t call the qualified, rather he qualifies the called.
