28th Sunday in OT Reflection:
In today’s gospel, Jesus encounters ten lepers who beg to be healed of their sickness. In Jesus' time, lepers were disregarded by society; they were avoided, shunned, and strictly kept at a distance. As we read, we can see that the lepers are longing for healing and also hoping to have their dignity recognized in society. For this reason, they go to Jesus and cry out: “Jesus, Master, have pity on us.” The response of Jesus is immediate: “Go and show yourselves to the priests.” They obeyed the word of Jesus, but only one of them, a Samaritan, realizing that He had been healed, came back to Jesus to say “Thank you.”
In our daily life we often forget the blessings that we receive from God, our life, our health and the food that we eat, and all that we are able to see, touch, hear, and experience the beauty of God’s creation. And also, we as human beings take for granted the gift of our families, our neighbors, the church, and the world.
The message of the Gospel today is: we must be grateful for all the blessings that we have received and continue to receive from God. Count your blessings every moment of your life. The most precious gift that we have received from God is our LIFE. We must know the value of it, take good care of it, and use it for the right purpose according to what he teaches us.
