In today’s Gospel, Jesus talks about the Beatitudes, saying: “Blessed are you who are poor, for the kingdom of God is yours. Blessed are you who are hungry now, for you will be satisfied. Blessed are you who are crying now, for you will laugh. Blessed are you when people hate you, leave you out, insult you, and call you evil because of Me. Rejoice and leap for joy, for your reward will be great in heaven.”
Today’s Gospel, awakens us that true happiness doesn’t come from having money, power, or comfort. Instead, it comes from being humble, wanting justice, and being strong enough to suffer for what we believe. Jesus is helping us see that being blessed is not about what we own. True blessings come from God’s love, not from things or success.
In His Sermon on the plain, Jesus shows us that the world’s ideas of wealth and status aren’t always right. He warns that if we rely too much on money and comfort, we might miss out on what truly matters. Jesus says the “poor” are blessed because they depend on God, while the rich need to think about what really keeps them secure. This reminds us to keep our heart focused on God, not on the things we have.
Today’s Gospel makes us reflect on the values that should guide our life. It encourages us to live with humility, to remember that we depend on God for everything, and to be kind to others. It challenges us to choose what is right, even when it’s hard, and to find true joy in our relationship with God, not in material things.
