A Sharing of Prayer Life in the Time of Pandemic

| Gregorius Purba Nagara

COVID 19 has spread throughout the world and has become a global pandemic. All of us have the risk to get or transmit the virus. We start living in a new way, keeping physical distance, wearing masks, and limited gathering. At this time, we are not sure if we get exposed to the virus or not. We are living in uncertainty, but we have to struggle to maintain our lives.

I think this moment is not only a moment of difficulty but also a moment of grace. It is so difficult because we are compelled to live differently and sometimes it is against our habits. We have to stay inside our house, our rooms for a while, and like or not many of us have to struggle under this pressure.

Once, I tested positive for COVID without any symptoms, and fortunately, I was allowed to stay in my room with the standard COVID 19 protocol. For me, staying for 2 weeks in the room was so boring. It is uncomfortable because I feel that I cannot do something for people who are in need. But, I have to give thanks to God because I am so blessed to become part of this community. They are supporting me as a family.

At this moment, I also remember people who are sick and not able to get access to the health care They are calling my heart to pray. Many messages were asking me for prayer. This was a great chance for me to pray more, not only for me but also for the world. I had more time to pray and talk personally with God. But, the most important thing for me was how the prayer helped me to be faithful. The prayer is not only about asking or begging to God for the thing that I need but also understanding God's will in my life.

Indeed, I am always asking God for his blessing and the grace that I want. Sometimes, it often appears to me that God seems doesn’t answer my prayer. I feel that this is the chance for me to be more faithful because God is preparing the best for me. I want to express what prayer is. The prayer is like our daily food. We need to eat to be alive. When we taste the food very nice and delicious. I think it is the time when we feel the joy and happiness of our prayer or when the time God answers our prayer. When it comes that we feel the food is tasteless, it could be that we are in the time of desolation. Prayer is our spiritual food. It gives us the strength to understand the will of God.

Jesus Christ gives us the best example to pray. How we learn to pray like Jesus, Bible, the Bible is the source of our prayer and also the main source to know Jesus, our savior. In prayer let us put ourselves in His guidance, trust in Him, and surrender yourself to him. This is my invitation to you to entrust yourself to God, to ask the strength so that you can enjoy your journey in the world with God.
