REACHING OUT TO THE NEEDY AND CARING FOR OTHERS
Hi, kumusta po kayo? Hope you are all doing well? This time of pandemic has been somehow shaky and very challenging for each of us. It began as a joke and we thought it would not last long but little by little we saw our habits being changed, where we do not have anymore the possibility of reaching the elderly, the sick, our friends, relatives, classmates, etc. for a gathering or apostolate. These ideas just became a dream and nostalgia for us during this challenging time.
In the midst of these trials, we are afraid that we may not know how our future will be if this situation persists. Sometimes we are willing to do something for others, but while looking at our empty hands we feel impotent. So, what can we do now? Is it still possible to reach out to the needy and care for the elderly for the sick in this time of pandemic?
By the way, we have some suggestion for you:
- Praying for others: let’s take time to pray for our families and friends, and also for those who are searching for solutions to this pandemic, for those who are suffering and those who have lost everything..
- Being Source of Joy: let us live the present moment joyfully and share our smile to everyone. As Pope Francis says, “The joy of the Gospel fills the heart and lives of all who encounter Jesus” (EG 1).
- Keeping in touch: we should take advantage of technology and use its tools to keep in touch with our friends, relatives, especially the elderly who are the most affected by this pandemic. Most of them feel lonely and depressed.
- Sharing Life: we should be aware and learn more about the situation of our brothers and sisters who lose their job, family, and sometimes do not have anything to eat. Sometimes even if it is a cup of rice, don’t hesitate to share with your neighbor or the one who knocks on your door.
. One more, we should do these while respecting all of the measures prescribed by the government in order to avoid being an agent of contagion.
Finally, Let’s make these words ours, “the World stumbles… but not my capacity to reach out to the needy and care for others.” As Pope Francis says: “Don’t be closed in on yourselves, don’t be stifled by petty squabbles, don’t remain a hostage to your own problems. These will be resolved if you go forth and help others to resolve their own problems and proclaim the Good News. You will find life by giving life, hope by giving hope, love by giving love.”
May our Lord Jesus Christ strengthen our faith.
